Tycoon Kavuya’s Family 10 others jet in

KAMPALA – Three members of tycoon Ben Kavuya’s family and 10 other Ugandans stranded abroad over Covid-19 on Monday, May 18, 2020 arrived in the country.

The group arrived at Entebbe International Airport at 7:30 pm from Addis Abba, Ethiopia, aboard Ethiopian Airlines.

Kavuya’s family members are his wife Barbra Kavuya, daughter Blanche Kibaju and grandson Isaiah Tiba Byabashaija.

Others are Bernard Mugisha, a UN officer, Samuel Walusansa, an official with IGAD, Dr Andrew Obuku Ekii of Uganda Virus Research Institute, Ernest Ojakol, Denis Wodulo, Makerere University Professor Oswald Ndoleriire, Hassifa Kagoya, Susan Namuli and Vivienne Naiga.

Kavuya’s family members were immediately taken to his Legacy Apartments in Bugolobi for quarantine while the others were later driven to Evelyn Apartments in Ntinda, a city suburb, for quarantine.

Mr Emmanuel Ainebyoona, the ministry of health senior public relations officer, said the returnees are meeting their own costs of the mandatory 14-day quarantine. The apartment charges Shs200, 000 per day.

Last week the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sam Kuteesa came under criticism for authorizing the family of Kavuya to fly into the country which was contravening the President’s directives on the closure of Airports as one of the measures to combat the spread of COVID-19.

Last week, the government announced that it will soon conclude on the process to allow Ugandans stranded abroad to return home as it moves to ease the COVID-19 lock down.
