Kamukuzi-Mbarara. State House Anti-Corruption Unit today Friday morning raided Mbarara District Head Quarters over complaints on allegations of corruption.
This followed a tip off from a whistle blower who accused district officials of allocating themselves all government staff houses and plots of land on Kamukuzi hill.
The whistleblower also reported that the Process of disposing off government property was done without approval of the council and in disregard of PPDA law, furthermore it was done with no openness and in conflict of interest.
Accordingly, among the beneficiaries of the ‘illegal process’ are Maj.Martha Asiimwe, a former RDC of Mbarara who allegedly allocated herself the official RDC house, and never handed it back when her term of office came to a close.
It is also alleged that Hon.Charles Ngabirano, MP Rwampara county illegally acquired a government property, housing the district veterinary Department with assistance of the district Chairperson and he has since sold the property to Mbarara Archdiocese.
District officials had also initiated a process to sell Kakyeeka stadium on top of misappropriating over shs360m meant for Koranorya road in Mbarara town.
Nakalema encouraged everyone at the meeting was free to tell the truth about what is transpiring in the district.
“We cannot have a city when there are queries,” said Nakalema adding that the meeting intends to resolve all the issues to make Mbarara a beautiful city in future rather than live amid disputes.”
The district vice chairperson Godfrey Baryomunsi guided the meeting saying the CAO who is the chief accounting officer would respond to the queries.
However, he confirmed that the district veterinary office is no more and that the district no longer has a place where to place equipment and specimen for the veterinary department.
