Overwhelming and unbearable local, regional and international pressure mounted on Museveni is soon yielding results. This pressure continues to mount on Security Agencies mostly the Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) and the Commander In Chief of the armed Forces General Yoweri Museveni who also doubles as the president of Uganda, locally and abroad to release the detained Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine, Mityana Member Of Parliament Francis Zaake and others. Sources in UPDF have told the MbararaCityNews that the high command spent the entire day yesterday in a meeting trying to resolve the Bobi Wine dilemma that has put the regime on tenterhooks.
Well-placed sources at the military court martial who spoke to this website on condition of anonymity revealed that Gen Andrew Gutti the chairperson of the Military Court told the team of senior security officers that he was ordered by the Commander in Chief to drop charges against the Situuka Otambule singer. “We do not know whether we are going to Gulu but what I can confirm to you is that the president has ordered the military court to drop charges against Bobi Wine,” our source revealed.
Our efforts to speak to Magyezi the lead prosecutor of the court martial were futile since his phones were not going through. However, one of his assistants told this website that he was very busy in the meeting at the army court martial in Makindye. He said that the team was briefed on the way forward and the decision of the high command.
This website has been told that Bobi Wine is expected to appear before grade one magistrate in Gulu court and according to our sources in the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Kyagulanyi will be charged with treason. “Yes the file is already sanctioned and now it’s the Directorate of Public Prosecution to prosecute the MP with treason charges,” our source in the DPP’s chambers revealed.
A-team of lawyers led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, Busiro Member of Parliament Medard Segona, Nicholas Opio the former security General Uganda law Society, newly elected Member of Parliament Bugiri Asuman Basalirwa and other international lawyers set off to Guru at 10pm.
MP Kyagulanyi was arrested and tortured by the military operatives before being charged with possession of a fire arms and detained in Makindye military barracks last week after the outbreak of violence in the Arua by-election. In the scuffle Bobi Win’s driver Yasin Kawuma was shot dead.
This resulted into riots and demonstrations around the country and the world including killings in Kampala and other parts of the country as people tasked security forces to free Bobi Wine.
