Ntare School in Mbarara is under emanate construction to become a first world model school in western region.
According to the head teacher Jimmy Turyagyenda, the project was initiated by the president when he visited Ntare School Rwebiro in Kigali Rwanda comparing it with the mother school in Uganda.
Ntare in history produced two presidents of Rwanda and Uganda respectively.
Mr. Jimmy says the president was impressed by Ntare school buildings of Kigali.
He added that the president Museveni asked the finance ministry to release special funding for expansion of Ntare School but the government had no money so the project will be done in phases started with laboratories.
Turyagyenda noted that an architecture in Rwanda was invited who happened to be an old boy and materialized a master plan to start on the project way back 2017.
Jimmy said the fully fledged project will include sits and gas installation in the science laboratories and furniture.
Mr. Jimmy however said the one-year multi-billion project has stalled because of the delay of release of money to the contractor.
“The money wasn’t forthcoming very much the contractor (Block technical services Ltd) continued but as you see we came to February 2018 but the project is not completed” he explained
The multibillion project started in February 2017 and was to end early 2018. It will cost government Shs. 2.5billions.
He therefore asked the government to pay the contractor to finish the work in time.
Jimmy added that the Old boys’ student’s association planned to put up a sports centre which is also under construction.
This will concentrate all the school games within the school rather than students running to Kakyeka stadium which is in a distance from the school premises.
Jimmy said that President Paul Kagame contributed 30,000 US dollars and Museveni UGX 100M in April 2014 during an annual Old boys’ association at the launch of the sports centre.
The 3000 sitter pavilion sports centre will cost the school around 800million Shs.
The sports complex will include; volley & basketball courts, swimming pool, and many others.
Mbarara RDC Maj. Martha Asiimwe hailed the president’s courage of thinking about the traditional schools which have been taken by numbers using the ordinary buildings of 1956.
She asked the students to use the constructed laboratories well so as to excel science subjects.
