Kampala. Fights in the Uganda music industry were not the stock of trade until early 2000s when the industry was ruled by three artistes; Bebe Cool (Moses Ssali), Jose Chameleon (Joseph Mayanja), and Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu).
With more artistes breaking into the top charts, the brawls intensified with most upcoming singers borrowing a leaf of the disruptive manners from the more established associates.
The fights have since taken a new twist and more lately, have seen more music wizzes, both singers and producers, losing their lives in the act. The grief that shook an entire nation yesterday, was a culmination of many years of war in the industry waiting to strike that fatal blow.
It finally hit where it hurts most by claiming a star crooner, a household Name-Moses Nakintije Ssekibogo, 33, popularly known as Mowzey Radio. He was an inseparable mirror image of the musical pair; Radio and Weasel of the Goodlyfe Crew.
His death followed complications after a fall during a fight with a fan/bouncer, a week ago. Radio was reportedly pushed to the ground and hit his head on the floor, sending him into comma. His situation never improved although doctors at the hospital had given the impression that the balladeer was out of danger. He joins a list of artistes who have lost their lives in a similar manner.
AK-47, a.k.a Emmanuel Mayanja
Singer AK-47, who was pop star Jose Chameleon’s young brother as well as brother of singers Weasel (Doughlas mayanja) and Pallaso (Pius Mayanja), died on March 16, 2015 at Déjà vu Bar, now called ‘The Dawn’ in Kansanga.
On the tragic night, AK-47 was discovered by one of the bar cleaners, sprawled dead on the wash rooms floor.
In November last year, Singer Oscar Mubuuke aka Dizzy Nuts Galiwango, was knocked dead by a car with no number plates that hit him and sped off outside Victoria Bar Kireka, just outside Kampala in the wee hours.
Dizzy Nuts was reportedly knocked down as he stood by Bebe Cool’s Hummer as the two chatted away before wishing each other a good night, and Dizzy Nuts attempted to walk across the road to a waiting car.
Another side of the story indicate that Dizzy nuts had been involved in bar fight with Bebe Cool’s Gagamel Crew members and he was fleeing the scene before knocked down by a speeding car.
His death has remained unresolved because no suspect was arrested
In the same year 2015 when death robbed the Music of AK-47, that cruel hand of death also snatched Cornelius Oloya. Ofcourse, the name Oloya doesnot ring a bell, but his nom de guerre Master Blaster, triggers tunes of the celebrated Embooko, a song that became popular in 2011.
Mater Blaster was shot twice n the stomach during a scuffle that was said to have broken out between a group of rival youth from Kawempe and another from South Sudan.
The two groups met at Eden Service Park, a bar in Bwaise where they had gone to hang out.
