Ministers and MP survive helicopter crash

State Minister for planning, David Bahati, Government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa and Rukiga District Woman MP Caroline Kamusiime have escaped death after a helicopter they were in got tangled with electric wires, forcing a crash landing.

The incident happened at about 6:30pm at Kabale Golf Course at Makanga Hill in Kabale District, where the two ministers accompanied by Rukiga District Woman Member of Parliament, Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi had gone to officiate a belated women’s day celebration.

The event was hosted at St. Barnabas Secondary School Karujanga in Katuna Town council, Ndorwa West County and Nankabirwa was guest of honour.

But as the ministers made their way back in the chartered aircraft registration number 5X-KEG, the helicopter got tangled in electric wires on take-off forcing the pilot to crash land.

The occupants disembarked the helicopter unhurt.

Nankabirwa recently equated President Museveni to Jesus Christ, saying the NRM chairman is devoted like the saviour and his intellect can only be compared to God’s.

Ashraf Seiko Chemonges the Kigezi Regional Police Commander confirmed the incident and said Police are investigating the circumstances.

This is the second incident of this kind in a space of months. On 18th December 2017 Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda, who had come to Kabale to represent President Yoweri Museveni at a church event also cancelled his flight on police chopper, which made a forced landing shortly after take-off.
