Ntungamo |The victim in the shooting incident in Rushenyi, one Dan Rwibiringi who was badly injured allegedly by the area Member of Parliament Mwesigwa Rukutana speaks out.
During a thanks giving function that was held on 26th December 2020 at Rugongi Church of Uganda to thank God for saving his life, Rwibiringi narrated what happened pinning Minister and his body guards for the shooting incident that took place on 5th September 2020
Controversial Minister was arrested Rukutana who was arrested on September 5, 2020 together with his four bodyguards by police was on September 7, 2020 arraigned before Ntungamo Grade One magistrate Nasifah Namayanja and several charges read to him and remanded to Kyamugorani-Kakiika Prison in Mbarara.
“Mwesigwa Rukutana and others still at large on September, 5, 2020 at Kagugu village in Ntungamo district unlawfully attempted to cause the death of Daniel Rweburingi contrary to section 204(a) of the Penal Code Act,” the magistrate read the charges.
He was also charged with assault and causing bodily harm onto one of his victims, threatening violence and malicious damage.
Rwibiringi claiming of the fateful day together with his colleagues Moses Mugimba, Katahwire, Juma and Justus were travelling from Rubare heading to Kashanda but when they had reached at Kagugu Parish slopping down one vehicle that blocked them, in the meantime more vehicles came from opposite direction also blocked them.
He went ahead that in a matter of seconds he saw Rukutana jump out of his vehicle with a gun targeting to shoot at them before he was blocked by his guards in a scuffle. “But later his guards put me on gun-point until when Rukutana came towards me and started punching me endlessly and later he again confiscated the gun from his guards, from then I don’t know anything that followed until four days later I gained conscious at Nakasero Hospital” said Rwibiringi.
Rwibiringi is the former Member of Pariament aspirant for Rushenyi County on FDC candidate.
According to Rwibiringi he is still on medication at Nakasero Hospital and the President pledged to cater for all the medical bills.
In the same thanks giving ceremony attended by Rukutana’s nemesis Noume Kabasharira advised people of Rushenyi to be vigilant and careful during this coming election.
She added that she is grateful to God because Dan Rwibiringi is recovering from fateful incident that could have been avoided.
When Mbarar City News contacted Minister Rukutana and agreed to give us his side of the story of what happened on that day.
Rukutana first of all trashed all the accusations and charges put on him that they are politically motivated and staged managed by his enemies in Government and first family.
He said that Rwibiringi and his colleagues are the ones that attacked him when he had come to rescue his visitors and his son that those people had blocked on the way.
He said that when he reached on the scene where the scuffle was Rwibiringi and his colleagues started insulting him claiming that Rev. Rubambura and Rukutana’s son were distributing money to people
“When I reached at the place found my son being tortured by those thugs, I only asked them to stop and for me I never assaulted anyone” said Rukutana
