The State Minister for Labour and Industrial Development Mwesigwa Rukutana has been remanded to Kyamugorani-Kakiika Prison in Mbarara over a gun incident on Saturday after losing in the NRM primaries.
Rukutana who was arrested on September 5 together with his four bodyguards by police was today (September 7) afternoon arraigned before Ntungamo Grade One magistrate Nasifah Namayanja and several charges read to him.
“Mwesigwa Rukutana and others still at large on September, 5, 2020 at Kagugu village in Ntungamo district unlawfully attempted to cause the death of Daniel Rweburingi contrary to section 204(a) of the Penal Code Act,” the magistrate read the charges.
He was also charged with assault and causing bodily harm onto one of his victims, threatening violence and malicious damage.
The minister was later remanded to prison and he returns to court tomorrow (September 8).
Following his defeat to Naome Kabasharira in the NRM primaries, Rukutana turned chaotic and in the ensuing scuffle grabbed a gun from one of his bodyguards.
He is alleged to have shot and injured one person who was rushed to hospital in critical condition whereas one vehicle was also destroyed.
