Police in Mbarara has warned local leaders especially Capt. JB Tumusiime Bamuturaki against making statements that instigate violence among the public.
The warning come as local leaders continue to agitate for mob justice against suspected thieves in the areas.
Last week, the district chairperson Mbarara Capt. JB Tumusiime Bamuturaki was quoted by the media encouraging the public to punish suspect thieves found with exhibits.
However, Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region Police Spokesperson tells our reporter that leaders need to desist from making such incitements because they know the legal procedures through which suspects can be handled.
Chairman JB as commonly called is known for his harsh stand on criminals in the district mostly repeat convicts. The legal framework to him seem to favour thieves who are convicted upon return from servicing their sentence continue from where they started. To him, the only option is to summarily put them in the public court.
