Mbarara Mayor’s Car knocked three, one dead

Mbarara Municipality Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi is in trouble after when his vehicle involved in a fatal accident where three people were knocked down, one reported dead and two admitted in the hospital where they were rushed critically injured.

The accident took place along Kakoba road in Mbarara town where it is alleged that the vehicle number UAY 985N Isuzu Truck Black that belongs to the Mbarara Mayor Kakyebezi, caused a fatal accident and knocked three people who were travelling on a motor cycle No. UEM353Z on Wednesday night around 9:30pm. One identified as Didas Twinomugisha 40 years, a resident of Nyamitanga in Mbarara passed away after spending the whole night at Mbarara Referral Hospital where he was admitted with his two fellows both terribly injured. Among the two who are receiving medication at Mbarara Referral hospital are John Mwesigye 32 a resident of Nyamitanga a boda boda cyclist and Dominic Orikiriza 22 also a resident of Nyamitanga.

According to the Rwizi PRO Samson Kasasira, confirmed the accident and told us that the Driver is not yet identified. Kasasira also added that Police has summoned Moyor Kakyebezi who was still on Run after the time of the accident. According to the police, it was not able to identify the driver who caused such a tragedy accident but investigations still going on.

ACcording some of the locals who were found at Mbarara Referral Hospital, one Immeldah Namanya witnessed that Mayor Kakyebezi was the one driving himself at the time and is the very person who caused an accident though the police failed to identify the person that was driving the motor Vehicle which caused an accident.

Locals added that it was around 9:20pm when Mayor Kakyebezi was driving from Kakoba heading to the main Town, and when he reached at The Heat Executive Accommodations, it’s when he lost control and knocked the three people who were travelling on Boda boda. Witnesses further noted that when an accident occurred, Kakyebezi moved out of his vehicle and disappeared.

When contacted Mayor Kakyebezi, he denied the allegations claiming that his Vehicle was being used by his Driver at the time of an accident. But Kakyebezi failed to identify his Driver whom he says that he ran away.

At the Hospital where the victims were admitted, locals surrounded the hospital while lamenting over the negligence of the Hospital doctors who they claim that they neglected the victims when they were brought to the hospital critical injured. Locals also attacked the Hospital Executive Director Dr. Celestine Barigye demanding himto explain why his doctors failed to help out the victims in time. According to the people who brought the Victims to the hospital, explained that they arrived in the hospital around 10:00pm but since then no one had attended them until today morning around 9:00am when Didas ended up died.

After Didas’ death, locals and relative reacted and decided to take away the remaining victims to the neighboring hospital in Mbarara which is Mayanja Hospital. Locals opted such decision in a way to get quick treatment, but when reached at Mayanja Hospital they found there was no Scan Machine and this forced them to turn back to Mbarara Referral Hospital.

Mayor’s Vehicle which caused an accident is now kept at Mbarara Central Police Station as investigations are going on.
