Mbarara. There was drama in the Mbarara Municipal council meeting on Friday as councilors tasked the Mayor Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi to explain and give an accountability of 300m Road fund that was meant for 0.55 km long Koranorya road.
The drama started when a section of the councilors proposed that the speaker should adjourn the council meeting until the mayor serves the Bank Statements and accountability of the spent money. Kakyebezi is accused with his accounting officer the Town Clerk Edward Lwanga for allegedly having withdrawn over 300m from the municipal accounts and misused that money that was meant to work on the above mentioned road located in Koranorya Biharwe Mbarara Municipality.
When Kakyebezi was asked by the Speaker to present those Bank Statements, he did not have any. This confusion led to some councilors and asked the speaker Bony Tashobya to adjourn the council until they get the bank statements. But the speaker challenged the motion raised by Godfrey Tumusiime of adjourning the council, and ordered the Mayor to handover the documents to the Finance committee as soon as early February.

Mayor Kakybezi was pinned in the same council meeting by one of the councilors Imam Kagiko who gave evidence that the money was withdrawn on 24th of June 2018 and the work for that road was started in November 2018 after some alarm from the councilors decrying over money for that road. Kagiko added that up to now the ongoing work at that road is still under a sorry state. On that evidence raised by Kagiko, speaker warned him to always have clear documented evidence to present to council the council not by verbal in order to avoid causing challenges.

On the same note Mayor Kakyebezi was also accused of always starting some projects without commissioning them Municipal Council leaders being involved
