Jacob Kiplimo wins Gold at World Half Marathon Gdynia 2020

Uganda’s long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo clinched gold at the 2020 World Half Marathon in Poland on Saturday, October 17.

The teenager arrived home in a time of 58:49 to win Uganda’s first ever gold medal at the event. The time is also now a national record.

To do so, he ran faster than compatriot and global icon Joshua Cheptegei who had to settle for 4th place.

This marks a wonderful year for Kiplimo who won the 5000m at the World Athletics Continental Tour meeting in Ostrava and 3000m at the Diamond League in Rome.

Kiplimo has been making steady progress in the last few years and it comes as no surprise that he clinched victory.

After a disappointing 26th place at the 2016 Olympics, the 19-year old went on to clinch gold at the 2017 World Cross country championships in the Junior men’s category.

The following year, he finished 4th in the 10,000m race at the Commonwealth games in Gold Coast.

Going into Saturday’s race, Kiplimo has landed silver in the World Cross country championships in Aarhus, Denmark in the Senior Men’s race.
