A heavy hailstorm has caused massive destruction of crops and livestock in Kabaare parish Rubindi sub county Mbarara District.
According to the Rubindi Sub County Chairperson Timothy Bahebwa Zikaire the torrential rainfall which started towards 3pm ceasing at around 4pm yesterday left many domestic animals dead under heaps of hailstones. The animals include cattles, sheep, goats, hens etc
In a telephone interview with our reporter, Bahebwa said by 8 pm last evening, some people were still struggling to dig under hailstone piles
looking for goats, pigs and sheep that were grazed on the ropes.
He estimated that over 2,000 people are at the verge of facing hunger if nothing is done by government to save the situation as soon as possible.
Bahebwa says the disaster hit mainly four villages of Nshozi, Orukiri, Rwobusiisi and Butaturwa all in Kabaare parish where cassava, banana, coffee and sweat potato gardens were left destroyed.
