Government to engage Sex Workers into Wealth Creation Program

Police led by Ass. Commissioner of Police Ester Akwango have today met over 100 Sex Workers from Mbarara Town with an intention of empowering themfor development facilities in a bid to entice them to quit commercial sexual work.

This meeting held at Kakoba division headquarters Mbarara municipality where police and other stake holders especially Community Development Officers mobilized Sex workers in a bid to link them join Operation Wealth Creation Program.

Police Officer explaining to our Reporter said that Government has come up with this program to support women Sex Workers across the country to reduce prostitution, Insecurity and boost their standards in urban Centers

She added that most of sex workers have been source of insecurity in country because most of the time they are idleness with no work to do. She gave an example of women murders that have happening in areas of Entebbe, Nansana and other areas in Kampala suburbs as directly linked to works of prostitutes operating at night.

The proposed Government projects under Operation Wealth Creation targeting commercial sex workers in these urban areas include Poultry farming, Piggery and many others.

This program has started in Nansana, Entebe, today in Mbarara and tomorrow they are heading to Masaka Municipality.
