Five Justices to hear Age limit law petition named

Constitutional Court has revealed panel of five justices to hear Age limit law petition. Hearing begins 9-April-2018 at High court in Mbale. The panel is to be headed by head of Constitutional Court who doubles and Deputy Chief Justice- Justice Alfonse Chigamoy Owiny-Dollo

The other Judges are: Justice Kenneth Kakuru, Cheborion Barishaki, Remmy Kasule and Elizabeth Musoke.

Contrary to what had been earlier communicated, the first session date for hearing the petition has been changed from 4th to 9th April 2018.

Last week in unprecedented move, Deputy Chief Justice Alfonse Owiny-Dollo announced that all the petitions which were filed challenging the age limit constitutional amendment, will be heard at the Mbale High Court

Despite pleas from the petitioners’ legal team led by Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago, asking him to rethink his decision, the Justice Owiny-Dollo stuck to his guns.

Deputy Chief Justice stated that taking the petition to Mbale is part of court’s policy under his new leadership to take such matters of national importance to different parts of the country and Mbale apparently, fits the bill.

Lukwago for several minutes passionately beseeched the Justice Owiny-Dollo to have a change of heart but all in vain.
