Mbararara. Farmers in Mbarara under their umbrella organization Mbarara Network of Farmers Voice have echoed their request to the President that as farmers they need to be recognized by the Government and proposed a National Farmers’ Celebrations day to bring together all famers in Uganda.
This proposal was mooted by Farmers during the function of National Farmers Launch that was held at Booma Grounds in Mbarara this Friday where a total of about 2000 Farmers from different districts across the country gathered. This function was organized by the Mbarara Network of Farmers Voice that was initiated by group Farmers based in Mbarara.
The function was graced by outgoing Ministerof State for Animal Huasbandry Hon. Joy Kabatsi who represented the President Museveni as the Chief Guest.
According the Chairman of Mbarara Network of Farmers Voice Robert Kabatereine said that Farmers’ role towards National Development need to be fully recognized by the Government by putting National Farmers’ day on the calendars and the day be celebrated annually
Kabatereine added that there are other Agricultural umbrellas organisations across the country but they had not come up to insist for the Farmers Day. He also said that they want this bill be taken to the Parliament of Uganda and get approved by the Parliamentarians so that Farmers can also be recognized.
Hon. Kabatsi assured Farmers that she will deliver their request to the President for consideration. She also added that as a minister she will use her capacity to table a motion about Famers’ day to the cabinet for approval.
Chairman Kabatereine condemned the bad leadership in the District over allegation that there were some Leaders in Mbarara who were plotting to sabotage this function to make sure that it could not take place because of cheap politics. He added that could be one of the reasons why they President did not come personally.
Over 20 Districts from different regions of Uganda participated in this function with product exhibition for a number of days. Mbarara Network of Farmers Voice partnered with MAAIF, NAGRIC, Mbarara Municipal Council, MBADIFA, Abesigana Dairy Co-operative and many more others
