Mbarara. The Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) diehard President Dr. Kiiza Besigye, the current party President Partrick Amuriat and other FDC leaders were yesterday blocked by Mbarara Police forces not hold rally in Kijungu- Nyamityobora in Mbarara.
On Friday evening the scuffle erupted between Mbarara Police and FDC leaders after when they were insisting to hold a rally in Nyamityobora Play Ground in Kakoba Division where Besigye and Amuriat were expecting to talk to FDC party members about the Peoples Government.
These were blocked on the way at High Street before they stepped at the play Ground. This came after police was tipped off that Besigye and his group were planning to have a meeting with delegates of FDC from Ankole region and then after they hold a rally in Town.
When Police got the information, heavy deployment was done in different places like at social center near Uganda Martyrs Church where Besigye and his group had planned to have a meeting. Other police deployments were also done in Kijungu Market, at Nyamityobora playground, at Booma grounds and other areas.
All these deployments never stopped Dr. Besigye and his team to meet, when they realized that there were heavy deployments at Social Centre hall, they secretly chose to meet at Grand Holiday Hotel and the meeting went on successfully uninterrupted.
While speaking to the delegates from deferent districts like Mbarara, Ntungamo, Kiruhura, Isingiro and Ibanda, Besigye blasted other opposition parties who always accuse him that he is he selfish for not stepping down to give a chance to other person to stand for presidency. That he has contested for presidency four times but failing, hence he should step down for other people. “No one brought me here, I must fight for the people because my head is now full of fighting to recover whatever that is now grabbed by the regime” said Besigye.
When the delegates meeting ended, then they moved around the town heading to Nyamityobora where had planned for a rally, but when the convoy reached High street Police surrounded them and started tea gassing on them to disperse the crowd. But reckless people started throwing stones to the police as Besigye remained in his Vehicle.
When Besigye decided to remain in his vehicle the police water canoe started splashing heavy water on his car until they brought another police truck to push his car away from the where he packed it. He was forced to drive away from where the scuffle was started and police escorted him with his fellows the Amurait, Mubarak Munyagwa, Ingrid Turinawe and the Mbarara FDC Chairman Stanley Katembeya to drive back to Kampala.
